location Mount Burdell Open Space Preserve (Marin County, California, US)

notes Note the distinctive color sequence of the throat here (purple below, yellow-white above); and the widely ovate and relatively large corolla lobes (in proportion to the relatively short tube length)...in contrast to the longer tube and smaller lobes of the Leptosiphon parviflorus plants which were growing and flowering very nearby (the latter being what Randy Morgan suggests would be better referred to as L. longitubus...see Randy's 'manifesto' on the L. parviflorus complex).

Unfortunately as far as esthetics go here, the beetles got to these flowers before I did...and chewed them up a bit.
