INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Jun 3, 2014
  • location   BLM Cottonwood Canyon Area. Near Rangely (Rio Blanco County, Colorado, US)
  • notes   Pictograph created by Native Americans. These images are painted on the wall of a rock overhang along a small unnamed tributary of Cottonwood Creek. These blue-black figures are lower on the wall than the group of large red anthropomorphs in the Barrier Canyon style. They were probably created by a different cultural group centuries later. The blue-black figures show some of stylistic characteristics of the Fremont people. Local residents refer to this BLM site as Moon Canyon (which is not recognized by mapmakers) or the Carrotmen Site.
