INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Aug 5, 2013
  • location   Lunar Crater Volcanic Field. East of Tonopah (Nye County, Nevada, US)
  • notes   Easy Chair Crater is a volcanic vent and cinder cone in the Lunar Crater Volcanic Field at the southern end of the Pancake Range. The volcanic field covers about 100 square miles and includes dozens of craters and cinder cones. NASA used this area for training Apollo astronauts in the 1960s becase many of the volcanic feature here were similar to those of the lunar landscape. The similarity is due to exceptionally low rainfall here which result in features that exhibit little erosion by water.
