Shasta-Trinity National Forest. Near Weed (Siskiyou County, California, US)notes t. Shasta (elev. 14,162 ft.) is one of the world's largest composite volcanos, composed primarily of andesitic lava flows and pyroclastic debris flows from eruptions during the last million years. The peak has been eroded by late Pleistocene glaciers and covered with brown pumice ash from its last major eruption in 1786. The three largest tongues of ice in this view are the Hotlum Glacier, the Bolum Glacier and the Whitney Glacier.keywords: earth science, geology, volcano, volcanism, Pleistocece, Quaternary, eruption, glacier, glaciation
