  • notes   Endemic to Hawaiian Islands. These ferns have become uncommon. Note the pulvini (swollen stipe bases) and the stipules (fleshy appendage paired at both sides of stipe base). these stipules are loaded with starch and were cooked and eaten in times of famine.
