         "Thick, opposite leaves 1-ribbed from blade base; thick, persistent stipules (Sect. Cerastes). It isn't oliganthus (Sect. Ceanothus). Perhaps dentata...."

         "Oops! I meant to write "perhaps cuneatus...." above, not dentatus. Still, flower color doesn't go with toothed leaf margin in the Jepson key (online)."
