  • location   BLM Volcanic Tableland. Near Chalfant (Mono County, California, US)
  • notes   Petroglyph inscribed in an outcrop of Bishop Tuff by Native Americans. Chalfant Petroglyph Site (CA-MNO-7). The saw marks are the work of a modern thief who was trying to remove this image. Sometime in the weeks after this photo was take, the thieves returned to this site with power tools and ladders. They removed at least four large petroglyphs and damaged several others in the process. BLM officials described the theft as one of the worst they have seen.
