location
Yosemite Valley. Yosemite National Park (Mariposa County, California, US)notes These features are exfoliation arches or inset arches. They form on the steep sides of exfoliation domes when large sections of granite exfoliation sheets peel away. In this case, glaciers may have eroded the lower portions of the exfoliation sheets, leaving the upper sections without support. The rock exposed here is the Cretaceous Half Dome Granodiorite.keywords: earth science, geology, geomorphology, Sierra, glacier, glaciation, erosion, exfoliation, granite
