INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Mar 13, 2012
  • location   Titus Canyon. Death Valley National Park (Inyo County, California, US)
  • notes   Petroglyph carved by Native Americans, probably by ancestors of the modern Shoshone. This figure may be a representation of a snake. These images are chipped onto the surface of stream-polished boulders of the Bonanza King Formation, an extremely hard, partly-metamorphized dolomite. The rock is so hard that the creaters of these images could do little more than barely chip the surface.
