Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Hilina Pali road (Hawaii, Big Island (Hawaiian Islands), US)family
Asteraceae
plant community Open shrubland, lava flows, mesic forestnotes Endemic to the Big Island of Hawaii, in 3 different areas. This location is on an old lava flow near Kilauea, around 3200 ft. While this species is listed as 'suffrutescent perennial herb', I would argue that it is a woody subshrub. All of the plants of this species I have observed in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park are not herbaceous, but woody and evergreen and around 1m in height.camera Olympus Stylus 790 SW
