  • notes   Endemic to the Big Island of Hawaii, in 3 different areas. This location is on an old lava flow near Kilauea, around 3200 ft. While listed as 'suffrutescent perennial herbs' (Man. Flowering Plants Hawaii, Wagner et.al., rev.ed. 1999), the plants I have observed are not herbaceous, but woody, evergreen and resemble a shrub or subshrub.
