Barringer Crater (Meteor Crater) (Coconino County, Arizona, US)notes This sample comes from Canyon Diablo, the site of an enormous impact 50,000 years ago. The collision created a crater 1.2 km in diameter and 180 meters deep. Thousands of meteorite fragments totalling more than 30 tons have been recovered from the area. This iron meteorite is classified structurally as a coarse octahedrite and chemically as IAB.
