INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Jun 27, 2011
  • location   Tuolumne Meadows. Yosemite National Park (Tuolumne County, California, US)
  • notes   Sub-glacial Water Polish on Pothole Dome. This undulating polished granite surface was created by water flowing beneath the glaciers that covered Pothole Dome during the Tioga Stage about 20,000 years ago - not by the movement of the ice itself. Streams flowing beneath the glaciers carried rocks, gravel, sand and rock dust that abraded and this part of the dome.
