notes Growing in an open sandy flat within chaparral, not far from a small brook. These plants key well to Nemacladus secundiflorus in the JM2 treatment by Nancy Morin. Salient key characters leading to species are: Plants erect; ovaries partly inferior in fruit; stems below reddish-brown; corolla white, midveins of lobes pink, tube present and cylindrical. Getting to variety is trickier, as I didn't measure corolla tube or leaf lengths. However, from the JM2 descriptions, this seems to fall within N. s. var. robbinsii...based on zig-zag inflorescence; lack of yellow blotch at corolla limb base; and (relatively) deltate calyx lobes. Perhaps clarity here isn't to be expected here...as varieties, by their nature, can tend to grade into one another. keywords: Nemacladus Hanging Valley
