INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  May 31, 2009
  • location   Mt Diablo (Contra Costa County, California, US)
  • family Polemoniaceae
  • notes   Vertical view of congested head-like inflorescence. Note glandularity. In addition to the obvious hairiness and glandularity, a key distinguishing character for both N. mellita and (the generally larger) N. squarrosa is the very short stamens that barely ''peak out'' of the corolla throat.
