INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Jun 10, 2010
  • location   West of Lake Isabella, Sequoia National Forest (Kern County, California, US)
  • family Onagraceae
  • notes   A single plant of Clarkia speciosa ssp. polyantha, showing the inflorescence axis in bud is straight, and buds are erect. Also visible are sepals fused to tip in bud, and the distal ovaries at flowering less than distal internode (which is a way to make statement 'inflorescence open' more precise). These plants also had sepals staying fused 'in twos', though that's not visible here. All the preceding are key characters for this species.
