location
Capitol Reef National Park. Near Torrey (Wayne County, Utah, US)habitat desertnotes This narrow canyon -- only 20 feet wide in places -- is one of the few passable routes through Capitol Reef. The wash has cut through hundreds of feet of Wingate Sandstone. It is the result of a superimposed stream that developed on a relatively flat plain in mid-Tertiary time, after the Laramide Orogeny. It resumed downcutting during a period of rapid uplift of the Colorado Plateau in the last five million years.keywords: geology, earth science, sandstone, erg, Triassic, Mesozoic, uplift, erosion, geomorphology
