INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Aug 2010
  • location   Nelly Bay (Queensland, Magnetic Island, Australia)
  • family Colubridae
  • notes   Green, or Common tree snakes can be many different colours. Coastal north Queensland individuals are often black with a yellow belly, earning them the name 'Yellow-bellied black snakes'. This name is sometimes applied to venomous species in southern Australia, and may lead to confusion that Green tree snakes are venomous. They are not, and are harmless to humans.
