| Reviewer's comments: | | | "Ihsan Al-Shehbaz (author of Brassicaceae in FNA and Jep 2) states in an email (Al-Shehbaz>Painter 7/9/11): Early in the Season all C. californicus, C. lemmonii, and C. coulteri have buds that are fertile, and only toward the middle or end of the season that the sterile cluster appears. Therefore, your photo could be any of these species. ===================== My additional comment- Compared to authoritative images of C. californicus from Carrizo Plains, the calyx in this image is relatively too long, tips of calyx lobe are spreading rather than incurved, and lobes of petals are several times too long. Image most likely C. coulteri, integrading to C. coulteri var. lemmoni - which has been raised to species rank in the new treatments. " |
