INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Apr 10, 2009
  • location   On bajada west of Titus Canyon, Death Valley National Park (Inyo County, California, US)

  • notes   Habit of a robust plant...M. reflexa is an annual. The leaves visible here are all upper leaves, which are widely ovate-deltate. The lower leaves are longer and thinner (oblong-elliptic). It's often difficult to ID Mentzelias to species, but I believe this is the only California species in the genus with 8 petals.
