notes D. nubigena ssp. nubigena is the only Dudleya listed in 'An Annotated Catalogue of Plants of the Cape Region' by Lee Lenz. ID also corroborated by Steve McCabe of UCSC. Inset is detail of inflorescence. Succulent, spine-toothed rosette in background is Hechtia montana (in the Bromeliaceae). Found at ~3000' elevation, 2/3 the way up a steep north-facing mountain slope.camera Shot on a Canon Digital Rebel XT at f4.5, 1/80, ISO 100, using a 50mm Canon compact macro lens.
