INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Jul 25, 2006
  • location   Mesa Lake, Humphries Basin, Sierra National Forest (Fresno County, California, US)
  • notes   Caught by hand (literally!) by the goodly naturalist Brandon B....then photo-documented and promptly returned to its element. Genuinely minimal impact ''catch and release''!!

Although the currently accepted name seems to be ''Oncorhynchus mykiss aguabonita'', I posted my photo as O. aguabonita so it would appear with the others on CalPhotos.

Note that the historical range of this species was in the high eastern portion of the Kern River watershed, south of Trail Peak in the Cottonwood Lakes area. It was introduced/planted at Mesa Lake and many other locales in the High Sierra for recreational fishing...with unintended adverse impacts on native frogs.

  • camera   Shot on a Canon Digital Rebel XT at f13, 1/50, ISO 100, using a Canon 50mm Compact macro lens.
  • photo category: Animal - Fish
