notes From Jepson Flora Project: 'according to Galen Smith (co-author of Scirpus and Trichophorum for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2]): that Scirpus pumilus and Trichophorum [Scirpus] clementis definitely should be placed in Trichophum following Flora North America vol. 23, 2002, which reflects the dismemberment of the old polyphyletic genus Scirpus by taxonomists world-wide; that his opinion is based on the judgement of the main world experts on generic delimitation in Cyperaceae as well as on his own studies; and that he thinks that Trichophorum as presently defined may be polyphyletic, but that the only North American species that may not belong in Trichophorum are Trichophorum clintonii and Trichophorum planifolium, which grow in dry habitats, unlike all of the rest of the North American species, which are wetland obligates and very similar in morphology.'camera Canon 5D
