| Reviewer's comments: | | | "This image shows a member of the cholla group of Opuntia, which have cylindrical rather than flattened stems. Opuntia basilaris is not only in the group with flattened stems, but does not have spines at all, instead having the tiny irritating "glochids" where spines would otherwise be found. I'm not clear on what species this actually is, but my best guess is that it is closely related to Opuntia acanthocarpa, which has similar very spiny fruit. " |
