notes The Oracle Oaks that I have located and identified around Whiskeytown Lake have lighter green leaves on top surfaces, much more like Q. kelloggii than the Oracle Oaks I have located, identified, and photographed farther north in Shasta County. The trees in the grove of Q. X morehus on Fender's Ferry Rd. near Delta/Dog Creek just off of I5, have much darker green leaf top surfaces with a more leathery look and feel, closer to Q. wislizeni. Quercus X morehus (or moreha) vary, apparently depending on which parent tree supplies the pollen. It may also be that the Q. X morehus trees hybridize back with either Q. wislizeni or Q. kelloggii, causing even more variety in appearance.camera Olympus C750UZ
