  • notes   Liver lobule junction showing portal triad, H&E stain. Taken at 25x. This is IB 131L slide #43. The pig liver has more distinct lobules than the human, with connective tissue running along all six sides of each lobule in cross-section. At the junctions between liver lobules are the portal triads, composed of a portal arteriole, a portal venule, and bile duct. The radiating hepatic cords (chains of hepatocytes) can also be seen in this image. The hepatocyte nuclei stain dark pink in this slide. The spaces between hepatic cords are the liver sinusoids; capillary beds in which the gastrointestinal blood from the hepatic portal system is processed.
