notes This individual is unusual for Arnica discoidea in that it actually has heads with ray flowers. In 'An Illustrated Flora of the Pacific States', the authors (Abrahms and Ferris) remark that A. discoidea can sometimes have ray flowers, although the Jepson Manual (1993) does not mention this. Also, the Jepson Manual does not list A. discoidea as occuring in this area (San Bernadino Mnts). The nearest geographic subdivisions listed in the Jepson Manual are the Western Transverse and Peninsular Ranges. This plant was pointed out to participants on a field trip with Andy Sanders during the 'Wildflower Weekend' event sponsored by the Riverside/San Bernadino Chapter of the California Native Plant Society.camera Shot on a Canon Digital Rebel XT at f5.6, 1/60 sec., ISO100 with a Canon 50mm Compact macro lens.
