Lichty Mesa next to Border Field State Park (San Diego County, California, US)family
Asteraceae
notes Lichty Mesa near Border Fields State Park, where Beach Goldenaster is well represented, with hundreds of specimens found on many areas of the mesa, including the slopes and the mesa top. Specimens from this site appear to differ from others throughout the range, which includes coastal areas of southern California and adjacent Baja California, Mexico. The relationships between the San Diego population of H. S. ssp. sessiliflora and other subspecies in the taxon require study. Regardless, San Diego populations of Beach Goldenaster are almost entirely extirpated, and the population on this site represents the most robust and viable residual population of this declining aster in the area.photo category: Plant - annual/perennial
