North Fork of the American River, near Dutch Flat (Placer County, California, US)notes Green Valley is incised into the wesk serpentines of the Melones Fault Zone. Just east of the fault zone, a thin screen of Mesozoic metasediments separates the serpentine from the Paleozoic Shoo Fly Complex farther east. The marble cliffs on the left are part of this Mesozoic screen. Note the bench cut on the cliffs, which supported a wooden flume, in the 1870s. In August, the river is low.camera Nikon 990
