location
Old Soda Springs (Placer County, California, US)notes The upper basin of the North Fork American is ringed by a series of peaks, formed, principally, by andesitic lahars of the Mio-Pliocene Mehrten Formation. Beneath these 'young volcanics' are various types of much older 'basement' rocks. Natural soda springs occur at various places. A hotel was built in the 1870s at Old Soda Springs, also a major petroglyph site, along the prehistoric trail connecting Squaw Valley to the upper North Fork American. Near one group of petroglyphs, guests at the hotel inscribed names, dates, and even pictures, on the glaciated granite basement rock.camera Nikon 990
