INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Apr 1, 1962
  • location   KING'S CANYON, Sequoia National Park (Fresno County, California, US)
  • notes   FAR VIEW OF SNOW; per Barbara Rice, Macquarie University, Australia (Nov 2002): 'A somewhat more precise location for this photo: it must have been taken from Hwy 180, about 2 miles north of Grant Grove Village (Sequoia National Park). The view is from Cherry Gap, or McGee's overlook, in Sequoia National Forest, looking west toward McKenzie Ridge and across a small part of the area burned in the 1955 'McGee' fire. So, it has interesting visual information about regeneration, or lack of it, following this severe fire (from memory it was a late summer fire, about September).'
