location
Along Burger Road, 1/4 mile before The Natural Gait (Allamakee County, Iowa, US)notes One of the showier species in the Tallgrass Prairie biome, L. pycnostachya reaches 4 feet tall. Large patches of this species are very impressive. They attract butterflies and hummingbirds in great numbers. Heads are composed of purple to pink disk flowers (no ray flowers) and are sessile on the stem. They are generally 4 to 5 inches long, but I have seen them as long as 12 inches here in Allamakee County.camera Sony Mavica FD83 (manual focus)
