  • notes   This plant growing in substrate transitional from desert scrub to sand dune. Chaetadelpha is a monotypic genus. Heads are ligulate with 5 ray flowers. Chaetadelpha has (nonplumose) pappus of 5 stiff awns and many bristles fused at their base. This distinguishes it from similar looking members of the genus Stephanomeria. (Two species with non-plumose pappus which were previously placed by the Jepson Manual in Stephanomeria have recently been moved as of June, 2000: S. spinosa -> Pleiacanthus spinosus and S. blairii -> Munzothamnus blairii. 'Manic taxonomy is a fustrating mess!' J.H.)
