beech wood, at altitude 1200 m. (about 50km north of Xanthi, Greece)notes A beautiful mushroom when still wet or damp, its color fades to pale orangish when dry (hygrophany). Associated with beech and other broad-leaf trees. Its edibility is unknown, but, as it is a Cortinarius, it should be at least suspect!camera Nikon Coolpix 700
