INFORMATION PROVIDED WITH THE PHOTO
  • date of photo  Jun 27, 1999
  • location   In rather open sandy/rocky soil and chapparal in Manzanita County Park, Monterey County (Monterey County, California, US)
  • family Orchidaceae
  • notes   This is a rather green form of P. yadonii. The identification was challenged, but the petal shape, spur length, habitat and location all fit P. yadonii and this opinion is shared by orchid experts. Jim Ackerman writes: 'The petals [are] overly green, but green in the right places'. P. yadonii plants are frequent where this photo was taken; no P. elegans plants were seen at the site.

    Reviewer's comments:
"the two upper perianth segments do not converge (hood-like) as is typical of P. yadonii; the photograph is more probably of P. elegans"
