Carex praecox is considered a quite rare plant in Slovenia and neighboring Austria, and it has been given the IUCN status of 'Endangered' species (Ref.5). The plants in the pictures are the second known stand in the upper Soča valley (Ref.1). This sedge blooms very early, which is why it has been named 'praecox' in Latin, which means 'very early'. This is also the case in many other languages. - Ref.: (1) Personal communication (found and id'ed) Dr. Igor Dakskobler, Scientific Research Center of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
