  • notes   Slo.: gnezdasti listar - syn.: Crepidotus nidulans (Pers.) Quél., Pocillaria stevensonii (Berk. & Broome) Kuntze, Panus nidulans (Pers.) Pilát, Lentinus stevensonii (Berk. & Broome) Henn - Habitat: mixed wood, Fagus sylvatica, Picea abies, Ostrya carpinifolia, Fraxinus ornus, Corylus avellana dominant; moderately inclined mountain slope, southeast aspect; calcareous bedrock, in shade; partly protected from direct rain by tree canopies; average precipitations ~ 3.000 mm/year, average temperature 7-9 deg C, elevation 635 m (2.080 feet), alpine phytogeographical region. - Substratum: dead, decorticated, still standing trunk of Picea abies in its initial stage of disintegration. - Comments: Growing solitary and in shelf-like clusters of fan-shaped pilei; more than 50 fruit bodies on the trunk found. Mycologist are still working on the question of where, precisely, to place Phyllotopsis nidulans in the fungal system. Recently DNA studies have not supported the traditional ideas. - Nevertheless, the mushroom is one of the most beautiful I know. It is rare in Europe and protected by law. It is always a happy experience to find it, particularly if it happens in the middle of winter at temperatures well below zero deg C and snow covered ground. - Description: pileus size 1.5 – 5.8 cm / 1 - 4 cm. flesh up to 3 mm thick and gills layer up to 4 mm thick; taste and smell mild, mushroomy, slightly unpleasant; flesh yellowish, brittle; hut light ocher (of fairly dry pilei), oac892; gills intensive yellow-orange to rusty-orange; SP abundant, yellowish-beige with slight pink tint at the beginning (oac683) and yellowish-ocher later; KOH 10% reaction on gills faint, somewhat darker than gills with eventually a slight red tint (far less than as with Crepidotus crocophyllus), on hut faint ocher; no hymenial cystidia seen, hypha with clamps. - Spores smooth. Dimensions: (5,1) 5,7 - 6,6 (7,3) × (1,9) 2,2 - 2,6 (2,8) µm, Q = (2) 2,3 - 2,7 (2,8); N = 35, Me = 6 × 2,4 µm; Qe = 2,5. Basidia dimension: (16.5) 18.2 - 21.3 (21.4) × (3.4) 4.1 - 5.2 (5.8) µm, Q = (3.7) 3.8 - 4.6 (6.2); N = 10, Me = 19.4 × 4.6 µm; Qe = 4.3. Olympus CH20, NEA 100x/1.25, magnification 1.000 x, oil (spores); NEA 40x/0.65, magnification 400x (hypha, hymenium), in water, fresh material. AmScope MA500 digital camera. - Uredba o zavarovanih prostoživečih vrstah gliv, Uradni list RS, št. 58/2011 (Regulation of protected wild fungi, Official Gazette of Republic Slovenia, no. 58/2011), (2011).
