location Bryce Canyon National Park: on top of Boat Mesa (Garfield County, Utah, US)family Cactaceaenotes Habit, in fruit; this specimen about 2-1/2 inches across. According to Flora of North America Volume 4, this species can be difficult to distinguish from C. missouriensis, but I refer it to C. vivipara because of the green fruit (which would be red by this time of year in missouriensis, or have faded brown) and the persistent flower parts at the end of the fruit (which mostly if not entirely drop off or weather away in missouriensis). Elevation ca. 8,050 feet. 12:23 pm.camera Olympus E-300 Evolt SLR digital cameraphoto category: Plant - annual/perennial
