location Balaklala Mine (Shasta County, California, US)family Ericaceaenotes (First named Arctostaphylos canescens ssp. malloryi.)There are many small 1 ft. to 2 ft. Arctostaphylos malloryi seedlings along the road in this area, but I found only 1 shrub approx. 5 ft. tall. This is most likely due to the fires that went through this area in the summer of 2008 (sparked by lightning) that burned most of the full grown shrubs of this and other manzanita ssp. The A. malloryi species is regenerating after the fire as well as A. viscida ssp. viscida, A. viscida ssp. pulchella, A.patula, and A. manzanita ssp.camera Olympus C750UZphoto category: Plant - shrub
