  • notes   I was hiking with two companions in a deep ravine, looking for carnivorous plants, when I turned to see this owl drop silently to a branch at my eye level. It is the first Spotted Owl I ever saw. We watched each other for twenty minutes before it flew away. I was nearly in tears.
