location Sanibel Island (Florida, US)notes Yellow-crowned Night Heron versus Blue Crab. The confrontation between the Heron and the blue crab lasted for a few minutes. Every time the Heron tried to grab the crab, the crab fought back valiantly, counter-attacking as in this photo. Eventually, the Heron gave up and looked for something else to eat. ’Twas quite a sight! Photographed at Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, Southwest Florida. The blackish water color is due to tannic acid leaching out of the roots of Mangrove trees at the Refuge.contributor's ID # 003208 photo category: Animal - Bird
