| Reviewer's comments: | | | "this is the only color mutation that shows up with any regularity in wild mallards. Called "schizochroism", it is (at least according to my own breeding experiments) a single-allele recessive sex-linked mutation. It shows up most frequently in females because it is masked by the dominant wild-type allele in heterozygous males. Homozygous males, which could be produced by interbreeding the offspring of this pair, have a silvery instead of green head etc." |
