Malacothrix coulteri (Snakehead) |
Anisocoma acaulis | Malacothrix coulteri is the "proper" Snake's Head, which might be verbally confusible with Scale Bud. A photo of Anisocoma acaulis is labelled "Snakehead" on another website. Both have unusually wide, overlapping phyllaries. The plant in the photo looks a lot like Scale Bud, but I'm guessing due also to the similarity of the common names. Anyway, Malacothrix coulteri has conspicuous, leafy stems, unlike the stemless plant pictured here ("acaulis" means stemless.) |
